VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: Sew a Marlo Sweater

This workshop will (virtually!) meet for five sessions. You'll learn how to:

• Print and assemble a PDF pattern at home (or opt for the pre-printed version of the pattern!)

• Measure the body accurately to create a perfect fit

• Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more

• Sew a button-down front

• Sew wide sleeve and hem cuffs

• Sew front patch pockets

• Sew a drop shoulder

Skill Requirements

Please note this is an advanced beginner level workshop. This workshop is suitable for advanced beginners/intermediate students who are comfortable using their sewing machine and have completed a garment project in the recent past.

Materials + Tools Required

• Marlo Sweater Pattern -  If you purchase the PDF pattern and prefer not to print/ assemble your pattern at home, we highly recommend our friends Brooklyn Motif for wide format pattern printing! • 2-3 yards fabric depending on size and fabric width (see charts above). The main sweater can be sewn up in stretch or nonstretch fabric! The bindings require at least 20% stretch. You can use the same fabric for both or use a contrasting fabric for the bindings. Suggested fabrics include medium weight fabrics such as sweater knit, french terry, sweatshirting, polar fleece, rib knit and boucle.

• 1/2 yard fusible interfacing

• Stretch sewing machine needle

• View A - 3 x 1 1/8” (30mm) buttons / View B - 4 x 1 1/8” (30mm) buttons

• Optional : 1 yd (3/8") clear elastic
  

• 1 spool of all-purpose sewing thread

• Marking tool like tailor's chalk, chalk wheel, or water soluble fabric marker

• Straight pins

• Fabric scissors or rotary cutter/mat

• Sewing machine -- please make sure your machine is in good working order before registering for this workshop. 

• Iron and ironing board or mat
