Nothing says summer elegance quite as well as a dramatic caftan. The Charlie Caftan by Closet Core Patterns is a fresh take on this warm weather staple. Learn to make your own in this virtual workshop!
In this three-part workshop, you'll gain an understanding of sewing from a purchased pattern, AND you'll sew a super-cute caftan, custom made to fit your body.
You'll learn how to:
- Measure the body accurately to create a perfect fit
- How to print and assemble a PDF pattern (or use a printed pattern if you prefer!)
- Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more
- Understand garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, ironing and troubleshooting
- Become familiar with sewing jargon commonly found in commercial patterns
- Sew a deep V neckline, dolman sleeves, a center panel, and room inseam pockets
- Sew pleats or a gathered bodice depending on the dress version selected
This is a three-part workshop taking place on the following dates:
Thursday 5/13 at 6:30pm-7:30pm - The instructor will demo how to cut out pattern pieces and fabric. Students are to complete these steps at their own pace between the first and second session.
Saturday 5/15 at 4pm-6:30pm - Students will sew along with the instructor during this session. There may be sewing homework to complete before the next session.
Sunday 5/16 at 4pm-6:30pm- Students will sew along with the instructor during this session. Some steps may be finished after class at your own pace-- you will receive a recording of the workshop to reference as needed.
