Interested in attending but no sessions available that fit your schedule? Please fill out this form and we will notify you when new sessions are added!

Please note: All class registrations are final; please view our Cancellation Policy and Covid-19 Policy for more information. By registering for this workshop, you are agreeing to abide by these policies. Thank you for supporting our small business!

Skill level requirement: this is NOT a learn to sew class; you must have sewn in the recent past, and be confident operating a sewing machine independently. See below for more info. If you're a total beginner, check out our Sewing 101 Workshops.

Learn to sew PANTS! Join us to amp up your sewing skills in this confident beginner workshop!

In this one-day intensive workshop, you'll gain an understanding of sewing from a purchased pattern and learn to work with stretchy knit fabrics. You'll make a cozy pair of pants, custom made to fit your body, and will leave with the skills and confidence to tackle more stretchy garment sewing on your own.

We will work through the Hudson Pants pattern by True Bias-- available in womens size 00-18 & 14-30, mens 28-42, and kids 2T-10! You'll learn how to:

  • Measure the body accurately to create a perfect fit
  • Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more
  • Understand garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, and troubleshooting
  • Sew with knit fabric
  • Sew an elastic waist with drawstring, pockets, and ankle cuffs
  • Become familiar with sewing jargon commonly found in commercial patterns

Please note: Because most sizes of this pattern are available as PDF-only, a printed copy of this pattern is not included in the workshop registration fee. Students must purchase the Hudson Pants pattern from True Bias-- mens, womens, and childrens versions are available, please click the link to the patterns for sizing info!

If printing the PDF version at home, the pattern must be fully assembled before arriving at class. Or, you can skip the tape-at-home hassle and have your pattern large format printed by our friends at Brooklyn Motif!  Feel free to email hello@brooklyncraftcompany.com with any questions about PDF patterns.

Fabric and other supplies will be available for purchase in our retail shop at a 10% discount to students. All tools needed to complete this class will be provided and sewing machines will be available courtesy of BERNINA of America.

Skill requirements: This is a confident beginner garment sewing workshop; you do not need to have extensive experience sewing clothing, but you must have basic machine-sewing skills, be confident using a sewing machine independently, and have sewn a few projects recently. Our Sewing 101 class (or equivalent) is a minimum prerequisite for this class (You can register for one of our upcoming Sewing 101 workshops here). If you're unsure whether you have enough sewing experience for this class, please send a brief email summarizing your sewing experience to hello@brooklyncraftcompany.com.
