Interested in attending but no sessions available that fit your schedule? Please fill out this form and we will notify you when new sessions are added!

Please note: All class registrations are final; please view our Cancellation Policy and Covid-19 Policy for more information. By registering for this workshop, you are agreeing to abide by these policies. Thank you for supporting our small business!

Skill level requirement: this is NOT a learn to sew class; you must have sewn in the recent past, and be confident operating a sewing machine independently. See below for more info. If you're a total beginner, check out our Sewing 101 Workshops.

Ready to take your garment sewing skills to the next level? Join us to to make an Open Studio Patterns Bumper Jumper in this 3-part course!

The loose fit of the Bumper Jumper gives you so many variations for fit. Make a belt with the fabric scraps and cinch it at the waist or just let it go and watch it become your favorite travel outfit. It has side pockets, of course, and the sleeve cuffs are finished to allow for a roll up or a roll down.

Best of all, the pattern includes sizes XS-5X!

Under the guidance of our resident sewing experts, you'll learn the basics of jumpsuit construction as you master several garment-sewing essentials.

We'll cover:

  • Measuring the body accurately to create a perfect fit
  • Working from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more
  • Understanding garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, ironing and troubleshooting
  • Becoming familiar with sewing jargon commonly found in commercial patterns
  • How to construct a notched collar, cuffs, inseam pockets, buttonholes, and optional waist tie

Skill Requirements
Intermediate sewing experience is required; YOU MUST BE COMFORTABLE WORKING ON A SEWING MACHINE INDEPENDENTLY and have sewn a few garments in the recent past.

Materials
The jumpsuit pattern and materials are not included in registration fee.

This pattern is available as a PDF only! It must be purchased from Open Studio Patterns and printed ahead of the workshop. You can choose to print at home and assemble the pieces yourself, or have it large format printed at a copy shop. We recommend Brooklyn Motif for pattern printing!

We have a variety of fabrics, as well as all necessary notions, available for purchase with a 10% student discount. Within 24 hours of registering, you will receive an email with a materials list and discount code. Feel free to drop by anytime before your class, or purchase supplies the day of the workshop!

You will need:

  • Bumper Jumper Pattern by Open Studio Patterns -- Purchase the PDF here!
  • 1.5 - 5 yards woven, non-stretch fabric depending on size and fabric width (see size chart in the photos above). Heavy fabrics like Denim, Twill, and Canvas will make a more structured jumpsuit. Softer fabrics like Linen will result in a more blousy look.
  • Buttons (any size is fine) Please note we have many more buttons available for in store purchase only
  • A spool of matching all-purpose sewing thread
  • 1 yard of fusible interfacing
