DIY Espadrille Shoes

In this workshop you will:

• Cut, reinforce, and sew the lined fabric upper portion of the shoes on a sewing machine.
• Learn how to sew the lined fabric uppers to the pre-made woven jute soles with a special hand-sewing stitch.
• Make one shoe from start to finish & be well-prepared to finish up the second sandal on your own!

Materials: Class fee includes all materials necessary to make a pair of espadrilles (woven soles, hand-sewing needle, and cotton yarn) -- but does not include fabric so that students can select their choice of fabric. Fabric will be available for purchase both in advance or before class with a 10% student discount . You will need: 

• You will need a half yard or fat quarter of non-stretch fabric for both the lining and exterior of the shoes. You might opt to use something sturdy like a canvas for the exterior, but its not required. Fabric such as Quilting Cotton, Cotton/Linen blend, or a Canvas are all great choices
• Matching Thread
• 1/2 Yard of Soft-Shape Fusible Interfacing

Skill requirements: This is not a learn-to-sew class; you must have basic sewing skills and be comfortable using a sewing machine. Our Sewing 101 (or equivalent experience) is a minimum prerequisite to this workshop.
